The University of Alabama – Tuscaloosa
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering B.S.
Sept. 2012 – May 2016

Research Interests:

Zach studies the coarsening of dendritic structures using 3D reconstructions of experimental samples obtained via serial sectioning. Of particular interest is the issue of the fragmentation of dendrite secondary arms and its effect on nucleation sites for equiaxed grains. This study is in collaboration with NASA, as experiments often need to take place in micro-gravity for the phenomena to occur on a reasonable timescale.
