Kevin McReynolds studies the phase-field crystal model, specifically on extending the model beyond the Swift-Hohenberg equation. He is looking at methods for obtaining more complex crystal structures as well as studying nanocrystalline grain growth. The goal of his research is to be able to model processes that occur during self-assembly of nanomaterials such as nanowire growth.
